Argentina Reimbursement for AI Echocardiography

How is echocardiography reimbursed in Argentina?
Through the Nomenclador Nacional de Prestaciones Médicas, whose 18xxxx family covers ultrasound. Cardiology has its own extension, billed as the code plus a /CA sub-code and valued in units rather than pesos: a complexity band, unidades de honorarios and unidades de gastos, which each payer prices. There is no Argentine code for AI analysis, so AI-assisted reporting is billed inside the existing echo codes. Argentina does have a discrete code for myocardial deformation, 180604, which is unusual and directly relevant to automated strain.
Reimbursement Landscape in Argentina
Four payer families sit on top of one shared code set. That is the whole structure, and it is why a single quoted tariff for Argentina is close to meaningless: the code identifying an echo is national, the amount paid for it is negotiated payer by payer and revised on a rolling basis.
Obras Sociales and the PMO
Around 300 union-linked and sectoral insurers, supervised by the Superintendencia de Servicios de Salud, cover formal employees and their families. The Programa Médico Obligatorio (Resolución 201/2002, extended to private plans by Ley 24.754) is the mandatory benefit floor and includes diagnostic imaging on medical order. Provincial obras sociales such as IOMA and the OSEP funds run their own nomencladores alongside.
PAMI and the Public Network
PAMI (INSSJP) is the dedicated insurer for retirees and pensioners and publishes its own Nomenclador de Prácticas Médicas, making it the single largest contracted payer for cardiac imaging in the country. Everyone without insurance uses national, provincial and municipal hospitals, which are budget-funded and free at the point of care.
Prepagas
Empresas de medicina prepaga under Ley 26.682, including OSDE, Swiss Medical, Galeno, Sancor Salud and Medicus, contract bilaterally with providers. They are bound by the same PMO floor and pay the highest per-study rates, so they carry the strongest per-echo revenue case.

Eco Doppler Cardíaco
The full transthoracic study with Doppler, and the workhorse code for an Argentine echo lab. Complexity band 4.
Valued at 8 unidades de honorarios + 25 unidades de gastos. For a dated peso reference, the Hospital Nacional Prof. A. Posadas 2025 schedule settles Ecodoppler cardíaco color (180301) at ARS 255.800, while OSEP Catamarca priced the related Doppler cardíaco code 180125 at ARS 76.844,38 in January 2026. The gap between those two is not an error: it is what payer-by-payer valuation of a shared code looks like.
Strain (Myocardial Deformation)
Ecocardiograma para valorar deformación miocárdica. A discrete code for strain imaging, which most markets on this site do not have. Complexity band 4.
Valued at 8 unidades de honorarios + 33 unidades de gastos, a third above the plain Doppler study on the cost side. This is the code that makes Argentina unusual: automated global longitudinal strain has a billable identity of its own rather than being absorbed into the base study. It is a Nomenclador code, not a Us2.ai code, and not an AI-specific code.
Stress Echocardiography
Ecoestrés con ejercicio físico (180302) and Ecoestrés con apremio farmacológico (180615). Both sit in complexity band 6.
Exercise stress is 15 unidades de honorarios + 50 unidades de gastos; the pharmacological protocol is 15 + 60. OSEP Catamarca priced the equivalent legacy codes at ARS 122.568,41 and ARS 148.371,95 respectively in January 2026, with patient coseguros of ARS 35.628,15 and ARS 43.128,45. Automated wall-motion and strain analysis supports interpretation across the multi-reader teams these protocols usually involve.
Transesophageal Echo
Eco Doppler cardíaco transesofágico diagnóstico. Complexity band 8, the highest of the diagnostic echo codes.
Valued at 23 unidades de honorarios + 64 unidades de gastos. The interventional variants are separate: 180607 as a guide to a therapeutic procedure (band 9), 180609 for 3D diagnostic TEE and 180610 for 3D TEE guiding a procedure (band 10). OSEP Catamarca priced legacy code 180133 at ARS 134.854,10 in January 2026.
2D TTE (Base Study)
Ecocardiograma bidimensional. The floor of the echo group, for a study without Doppler. Complexity band 3.
Valued at 7 unidades de honorarios + 25 unidades de gastos. Two further codes matter for inpatient work: 180613 covers an echo on a patient admitted to UTI or UCO (band 6, 15 + 25) and 180612 covers an out-of-hours study. OSEP Catamarca priced Ecocardiograma completo con ecoscopia (180103) at ARS 25.076,11 in January 2026, with a coseguro of ARS 7.288,70.

Public Hospitals
National, provincial and municipal hospitals. Free at the point of care and financed by budget rather than by activity, though they do bill third-party payers for insured patients using the same nomenclador codes.
Where the marginal study earns no marginal revenue, the value case is throughput and reporting consistency rather than billing. This is the setting where automated measurement moves the most.
Obras Sociales and PAMI
Contracted providers bill the obra social or PAMI against the nomenclador, split into honorarios for the specialist and gastos for the practice, with a patient coseguro on top in many plans.
The largest insured pool. Unit values are renegotiated frequently, so contract cadence matters as much as the tariff level when modelling revenue.
Prepagas and Particular
Private plans under Ley 26.682 and self-paying patients. Prepagas contract bilaterally at rates above the obra social level; particular patients pay the clinic schedule directly.
The highest per-study revenue and the most turnaround-sensitive demand, so both halves of the AI value case apply here.

ANMAT Registration
Software meeting the definition of a producto médico must be registered with ANMAT. Us2.ai holds a Class II ANMAT registration. Disposición 64/2025 brought MERCOSUR Resolución GMC 25/21 into national law from 21 January 2025 and repealed Disposiciones 2318/02 and 1285/04; applications already underway keep the class assigned when the file was opened.
ANMAT SaMD and AI Guidance
ANMAT publishes dedicated industry guidance for Software as a Medical Device and machine-learning devices (ANMAT-PME-SOF 001-00), applying an IMDRF-style matrix that classifies by the seriousness of the condition and the significance of the information the software provides, not by the technology used to build it.
Health Data and the Clinical Record
Ley 25.326 treats health data as sensitive personal data, supervised by the Agencia de Acceso a la Información Pública. Ley 26.529 governs patient rights and the historia clínica, and Ley 27.706 created the federal programme to digitise and unify electronic clinical records.
